Community Gardens for Rancho Cucamonga
The next great thing to happen to Rancho Cucamonga is going to be our Community Garden project. Fifteen acres of land near the southwest corner of Day Creek and Foothill have been donated, and it looks like ground breaking will take place in early 2011. A planning meeting open to all will take place January 6, 2011 in the Lion’s Center West at 7:00 p.m. For more information go... -
Why There’s no Magazines in my Waiting Room
God Bless those of you who cheerfully thumb through my copy of Heinerman’s Encyclopedia of Nuts, Seeds and Berries when you come in for chiropractic care. You may have noticed that I do not allow magazines like Ladies’ Home Journal into my office. This is true in spite of the fact that magazine companies send me lots of freebies, hoping I will set them out. I have the Ladies’... -
Is it Organic?
I was telling a patient recently to check out one of the new Asian supermarkets in town. In the produce section, you can find wonderful greens, purple sweet potatoes, exotic mushrooms still growing in their little plastic tubs, and more. “But they don’t have organic, do they?” my patient asked. McMansion Economics
In last Sunday’s Los Angeles Times there was an opinion piece written by three economists. Entitled McMansion Economics, their essay points out that the size of the average American home has ballooned from 1700 square feet to over 2400 square feet since 1980. Larger homes mean higher utility bills, more stuff and furnishings, a bigger mortgage. They write, “if Americans are willing to rethink their assumptions about what their... -
Flu Shot or Falafel Sandwich?
The Center for Disease Control (cdc.gov) is our government agency in charge of monitoring/preventing disease outbreaks in the United States. When it comes to the flu, they break down statistics by “season.” It’s not unlike the football season or holiday shopping season to me—a little too much hype when there are many other pressing health care issues we should all be debating. As I was driving to work recently,... -

Have you ever wanted to listen to the tiny voice inside your head that questions some of the things your medical doctor wants you to believe? I am that voice! Follow along with me as we explore the great divide between real health and the health... -
Excuse Me Miss, Your Diagnosis is Showing
A millennium ago, when I attended chiropractic college at what is now Southern California University of the Health Sciences, I had a professor I’ll never forget. Dr. Ahmed wore a long white lab coat and paced in front of his podium, admonishing us to pay attention. What if we missed only one class, one day in our lives, and that was the day he lectured on diagnosing appendicitis? A...
