Keep on Truckin’

A medical doctor, a lawyer, and a trucker are having lunch together at the local diner. Which one would you trust to best explain chiropractic to you? I hope you picked the trucker.

For many years, truckers and chiropractors have had a sort of symbiotic relationship. The truckers keep chiropractors busy, and we keep them working. For a guy (or gal) who is self-employed, being unable to drive because of back pain means he can’t put food on the table. Most truckers will tell you, there ought to be a chiropractor in every truck stop. I’ve met drivers who carry x-rays of their spines in their cabs. Many are well-versed in the language of chiropractic–they’ll come in and say “check my 5th lumbar, Doc, I think it’s out of alignment.” They need no convincing of the benefits of chiropractic care. They stick to what works best and fastest. Truck drivers understand mechanics, so they understand that pain medication cannot correct a spinal misalignment.

Most truckers are super nice people, so they are always welcome at Chiropractic Advantage. Today, I adjusted a guy on his way through to South Dakota. Once he got off the adjusting table, he planned to rest in his cab with an ice pack for a few hours while his body began to heal. With any luck, he’s well on his way out of town by now. I may only see a truck driver once, and knowing that, I am all the more motivated to do my best work.

To your health, Sharon Martinez D.C. of Chiropractic Advantage, Rancho Cucamonga, CA
