At Chiropractic Advantage, we recommend that you get into adding green smoothies and/or juicing to your healthier lifestyle. Here, you can watch a 5-minute video on how to prepare a green smoothie. Valya Boutenko is part of the Raw Family.

Note that Valya is using a high powered blender instead of a juicer. The blender will make a thick drink like a shake. Popular brands include BlendTec and Vitamix.

A juicer will make a small amount of powerful liquid out of your pile of veggies and fruit. What’s better, a juicer or a blender? They’re both excellent, so if you have one and not the other, you’re still fine. (In my home, I don’t have a fancy $450.00 blender, so my vintage Osterizer does the job for smoothies. For juice, I have an old Kenwood machine.) With a juicer, you are able to concentrate a lot more nutrients into a smaller cup of the finished product. With a blender, you will get all the fiber, which is beneficial. However, you will not be able to ingest the nutrients from as many vegetables when you have the fiber filling you up. Personally, I like to use a juicer when the objective is to get the most nutrients into the body as fast as possible, say, when someone is ill or trying to heal an injury. On a maintenance basis, I would use a blender and get the fiber.

Again, you can spend a lot or a little on a juicer. In my opinion, any juicer that can process green vegetables is going to work for you. Here is a video with the basic green juicing recipe used in the movie, “Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead.” If you haven’t see that movie, by all means rent it on Netflix soon!
