Eating to Cure Multiple Sclerosis–Healthy Nutrition
What if…you found your way out of your wheelchair by eating healthy food? That’s exactly what happened for Dr. Terry Wahls, who describes her quest to recover from multiple sclerosis in the above video. Since making this video, she’s gone on to do clinical trials involving diet and multiple sclerosis. The results of her trials were, in her words, “amazing.”
We’re reaching a tipping point today in terms of our diets. Many of us are moving away from our standard American diets and toward a plant-based diet. Some, like Dr. Wahls, advocate more of a paleolithic diet–one that includes wild salmon or organic meats occasionally. Others, like Dr. Gabriel Cousens, advocate a mostly raw, vegan diet. What both diets have in common is that they eliminate processed foods and greatly increase anti-inflammatory foods such as fruits and vegetables.
As a chiropractor, I see my job as helping to remove any interference between you and optimal health. When I come across someone who seems to be having a hard time healing or recovering, I definitely encourage them to increase their intake of fresh veggies and fruits. Dr. Wahls recommends nine cups of vegetables a day. If you’re currently having nine cups of coffee a day instead, here’s the good news: your chances of feeling better by switching to veggies are through the roof!
