At the Living Water Farm

Thanks to all who attended the Urban Farm field trip to Myra House Living Water Farm in Claremont on Sunday. It was so enjoyable that we stayed out in the garden for quite some time! Here you can see how a typical single family home has been transformed by adding a rainwater pond, chicken coop, vegetable beds, berries, fruit trees, and herbs. It seems that everyone who attended found inspiration to start or add to their own home gardens.

Well, almost everyone. I have a neighbor up the street who has pulled out a bunch of shrubs in front of his house. I was curious to know whether he would put some vegetable beds in that empty space, but so far, no…only in my dreams! But if even one person is inspired from these photos to start growing more of their own food at home, please let me, Dr. Sharon Martinez, know you are out there!

Grow it in a home-made planter hanging from a fence!
